Education: John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Science and a Master of Science degree in Family Studies/Marriage and Family Therapy. John completed his graduate work at the University of Kentucky in Lexington (AAMFT accredited).
Background: John has been practicing individual, couples, and family therapy since his graduate school practicum in 1996, and has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota since 2000. He has a background in couples and family therapy, play therapy with children, and individual therapy with adults and children to address a wide variety of mental health and relationship concerns. John is an approved supervisor for individuals seeking licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) and Professional Counselors (LPC, LPCC).
Therapeutic Approaches: John approaches therapy with a family systems view of problems or identified goals, and utilizes existing individual and family strengths to reduce or extinguish unhelpful patterns of behavior. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often quite helpful as a foundational or peripheral approach to change.
